About Seka Kagwa Clean Water Project

Seka Kagwa Community Water Project is a partnership between Japan and Kenyan Government, funded by Japan Embassy in Kenya and implemented by IDF. The project was initiated with the aim of addressing water borne diseases which had been a challenge in Seka Kagwa community.

In conjunction with Yamaha Corporation, the project was able offer the community a natural water purification system. Upon completion, the system produces 8,000 liters of per day, serving the nearby school and the surrounding Seka Kagwa community with a population of about 15,000 people.

The project is managed by a water committee established by the community members under the leadership of Homa Bay Water and Sanitation Company (HOMAWASCO). To enhance the project’s sustainability, the community members access the water a subsidized and affordable rate.
